The brand in question is a handmade, vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics small business that runs out of Portland called Shiro Cosmetics. The creators base their products off of things they are passionate about. Just this information is enough for me to be intrigued: staying true to what you love while producing beautiful, Earth-friendly products is extraordinary.
Obviously, I was immediately drawn to the "Marauders, Mugwumps, and Muggles" Collection (that name though), which is a line of face, eye, and lip products inspired by the magical world JK Rowling captivated us with so many years ago. My mother, who is much more experimental and bold with her makeup looks, picked out a few shadows for herself. I, however, decided to try an eyeshadow, two lip glosses, and the bronzer. Because who can resist a Chocolate Frog-inspired bronzer?
Milk Chocolate Frog Bronzer
Chocolate Frogs are my Harry Potter confection of choice (along with Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans) so when I saw this, I had to have it. The packaging is super cute: under every lid is a random picture of a wizard so you can "collect" all of the different cards--clearly, mine is Harry himself! The color is a light, medium brown with a hint of glitter in there. I prefer matte bronzers, but shimmery ones are always nice for giving your face a nice, overall glow.
The only thing I don't love about this is that it is a loose powder. Loose powders aren't my favorite because just like me, they are a mess. My biggest recommendation for these is to swirl your brush into the lid to avoid any excess spillage. Nevertheless, this is a great bronzer: it's smooth and pigmented and fun. And for $9, it's a steal.
Too Old, Too Poor, Too Dangerous Eye Shadow
Inspired by my favorite Defense Against the Dark Arts professor (Remus Lupin love!), this shadow is really pretty. It's a silvery taupe that is clearly inspired by the mysterious-and-slightly-ominous glow from a full moon. I think I can forgive this one for being a loose pigment because it's so unique. Cool-toned and a perfect medium shade, this will look gorgeous in the winter months with a bold, black liner and a dark lip. Again, the color is smooth and pigmented and just lovely. And $6.50!
Hand-Blended Butterbeer Lip Gloss
This might be my favorite of the bunch. Okay, it definitely is. And not just because it's Butterbeer inspired. Squeeze-tube glosses take me right back to my childhood when I thought I was sooooooo cool for breaking out my favorite cherry flavored one during recess. But that's not the point.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the gorgeousness that is this product? Not only is the color a beautiful light caramel. But in the tube it looks like Rosmerta from The Three Broomsticks just handed you a glass: the dark hue is topped with a shimmery, foamy white, and you can see the bubbles. This is the best. Shiro Cosmetics, A for effort. I'm serious. And it smells like Butterbeer. Does it get any better? Don't answer. It doesn't.
Anyway, this is a really nice gloss. It's slightly sheer, not at all sticky, and the scent lasts for days. I'm serious. I put this on and immediately just started taking in the scent. It's heavenly. This was the most expensive product at $10, but I don't even care. The product is marvelous and the detail is out of the world. I would repurchase this forever.
Polyjuice Lip Gloss
The Polyjuice Potion Lip Gloss is definitely the most interesting to me. I've heard of blue glosses, which are meant to layer over a warmer shade to brighten your teeth. But green? However, the website said that, while the color is a true, sheer green gloss, it's purpose is also layering. This color adds a brown tint to natural lips or slightly darkens a lipstick shade. And I really like it! The packaging is super cool and looks just like Snape bottled it up, complete with a hand-drawn label. I'm mostly excited to whip this out of my bag and have people confused as to why I want emerald lips. Should be fun to apply in front of my brothers, right? The glosses with the doe-foot applicators are slightly cheaper than the tube ones, coming in at $9, which I believe is because of the detailed packaging process of the Butterbeer gloss.
And here is everything swatched! From left to right: Milk Chocolate Bronzer, Too Old, Too Pour, Too Dangerous Shadow, Butterbeer Gloss, and Polyjuice Gloss. The only one that didn't photograph well is the eyeshadow: in this picture, it looks very dark and not nearly as shimmery and gorgeous as it does even in the pan. I also would like to note that I built up the bronzer color a bit--it's definitely way more wearable! All in all, I highly recommend. I know that I'll be shopping with this company again soon--mostly to stock up on those tubed lip glosses! I'll link the website here.*
